Four destinations, zero visa
Nepal (both cities) and Malaysia (both cities) are completely visa-free for an Indian passport, and they're also the four cheapest destinations on this entire expanded list. Nepal in particular, at barely a tenth of the budget. If ₹3 lakh is more than you need for a single trip, this is where the same engine keeps finding room for a second one.
Japan and Australia, for the first time
Neither appears anywhere on the ₹1 lakh list. The flight alone exceeds that entire budget. At ₹3 lakh, three Japanese cities (Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, all around ₹108 to 109k) and two Australian ones (Melbourne at ₹127k, Sydney close behind) clear the bar on eVisa. This is the real headline of moving from ₹1 lakh to ₹3 lakh. It's not just "more of the same, cheaper" destinations, it's an entirely different tier of trip becoming reachable.
Zero near-misses, a useful signal
At ₹1 lakh, several destinations sat just over budget (Malawi, for instance). At ₹3 lakh, there are none. Every destination the engine considers either clears the budget comfortably or doesn't show up as "close." That's a sign ₹3 lakh has real headroom in it for most single-city trips at budget style; if you're deciding between ₹2 lakh and ₹3 lakh, the jump to 3 buys meaningfully more than just a buffer.
Africa's range widens
Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, South Africa and Botswana all clear this budget: Ethiopia and Zimbabwe on visa-on-arrival, South Africa and Botswana on eVisa. Together with Morocco (eVisa), that's five African destinations spanning safari, waterfalls, and North African cities, none of which show up at the ₹1 lakh level.
What's still off the list
Embassy-visa destinations, the US, UK, most of Schengen, stay excluded regardless of budget, because the constraint is the process, not the cost. Raising the budget further on the live tool won't change that; it's a deliberate filter, not a shortfall.
Changing the numbers
Every figure above is one traveller, five nights, budget style. A second traveller adds cost mostly through flights and visa fees (charged per person); lodging scales more gently. Want to see this at mid-range or luxury style instead, or a longer stay? The live planner recalculates instantly; this post is one fixed snapshot of it.

Is Japan actually affordable from India? At ₹3 lakh for 5 nights budget-style, yes, around ₹108 to 109k total including an eVisa. It won't appear at all on a ₹1 lakh budget.
