Data & Sources
Locovise is built on open data and free services. Here's what we use, and how. Visa, fare and cost figures are directional estimates, refreshed periodically, and may be modified or simplified, always confirm details before booking.
Visa requirements
Passport-by-destination visa rules are based on the open Passport Index Dataset by Ilya Ilyankou (data from Passport Index). We map and simplify it into our own categories and add our own difficulty and cost estimates, so any errors are ours, not the source's.
Country locations
Country coordinates, used to estimate flight distances, come from public country-centroid data (Google Public Data / canonical countries).
Maps, places & routing
- Attractions and geocoding from OpenStreetMap contributors (via Overpass and Nominatim), © OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL.
- Fallback geocoding by Photon (Komoot).
- Road distances via OSRM.
- Maps rendered with Leaflet.
Flight prices & exchange rates
Airfares are our own estimates, sampled from public flight-search sites for headline routes and modelled by distance elsewhere. Exchange rates are periodic mid-market snapshots. Both are indicative only.
A note on coverage: where a place is contested, we follow our own editorial choices. We do not list Israel as a destination; the State of Palestine is listed instead.
